Surviving recession

We were talking the other day of what we remembered of Wash Days when we were growing up. I think when I first start thinking of Wash Days or as it is also known as laundry day I can smell the Laundry Soap as I come in the back door of our house. When I was growing up the Laundry was done on Mondays and then the Ironing was done on tuesdays, every week come rain or shine. The laundry was done in the old ringer type washers
In our house, the washer was set up in the basement. My grandfather fixed the hose to the hot water heater so the washer could be filled with hot water and close to the drain so it could be drained when needed. Now behind the washer there two No. 10 wash tubs.
One was filled with hot water and that is the one that the clothes were wring out into from the washer and the second tub was cold wather for final rinse. And when Mom was doing the Whites the second tub and whitening init.
We use either oxodoly or Tide or Cheer detergent. When you came in the back door on Mondays you could smell the hot soapy water and wet clothes and then the clothes were hung up outside on the clothes line. And when the clothes were taken down you could smell the sun and air in them. I miss those Laundry days. Maybe we should go back to doing laundry like the old days and save a little electric. Well, maybe does seem like a lot of work now that I think of it
